Brainwashing

After reading up on the AtheistForum, and reading some posts, I saw a story of a guy who was raised in a Christian home, went to church every week, and had a fundamentalist Christian father (I say Fundamentalist because I just assume so from the story, could be wrong), but at his teenage stage came to realize the flaws and contradictions of such a religion. Another noteworthy fact is that the author of the post is gay, but hasn't told his father.

It gives me hope that at such a young age, kids are starting to realize the ridiculousness of the Bible. I admit that he does have some good morals to go by (Not everything! Just a few bits here and there!) Love thy neighbor, don't hate others, the usual. But I see this story, and then hear about another story of parents just brainwashing their children to believe this book blindly! There was a Documentary done by Louis Theroux called "The Most Hated Family in America" and it was based off the Westboro Baptist Church (You may know this infamous cult from the protests they pull at the funerals of KIA soldiers) . Basically he was able to stay with them for a few weeks, and get to know how they lived their lives. It is one of the most hateful and disgusting things I have ever seen, and I'm surprised that Louis was able to keep a calm and level head when dealing with these baffoons.

Anyway, why I bring this up is you get to see the children of this Church (The Church itself being made up of a large family, and a couple of friends) spout hateful. vulgar nonsense, and when questioned, they don't know what it means. They're told to hold signs by their parents, and some are too young to read them. Sadly, they're legally in their rights to do these things because the kids are fed, and go to school.

The Gay Rights Movement

Hey folks, here for a quick post.

If you haven't yet seen the video "The Gay Rights Movement", its a video posted by RyanJamesYezak. The title speaks for itself, but to sum it up, it is going to be a documentary (Created by Ryan Yezak) and its a both inspiring, and sickening video. Inspiring because it shows the hope that there are people speaking out against Anti-Gay acts/laws and abuse, and it is sickening because I cannot believe that we are just realizing that no matter what gender you love, you're as equal as the human beings around you.

A big part of Anti-Homosexuality being so present is because of both Religion, and ignorance (And both go hand in hand). Please watch the video below, and if you have a reasonable argument against homosexuality (Though there is not a single one I have yet to see rational even in the slightest), I'd prefer you message me and not comment on this specific post. Thanks for reading.

Morality Vs. Old/New Testament

When discussing morality and whats right and whats wrong, I always (always) love to look at the Old Testament.
"If we didn't have Gods divine guidance, we'd be murderous thugs!"

Murderous thugs indeed, and who to look to for an example of a 'murderous thug' then God himself! Back to my statement on looking to the Old Testament, God sanctions everything that we find wrong and immoral.
The Old Testament gives you all the know-how on Slavery, beating your slave, Rape and so forth.
[Exodus 21:20-21 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.]
So don't beat the slave....oh wait, I'm all clear to beat him? Just can't kill him or have him die within a few days from the wounds. Not only does this allow inhumane violence, but it also condones slavery. You'll find many stories in the Old Testament of God having his "People" (He changes his choice of people from time to time, its Gods will!) conquer neighboring tribes, taking the women, and enslaving the men.
"But that was the OLD Testament, we know that all that stuff was wrong!"

Ahhh really? So the whole enslaving of african americans and other races after the New Testament was just a fluke? Jesus never said slavery was a no-no, and anyone else hear the argument
"Slavery though was different back then! It was more of a 'Social Status'!"

This seems to me as self conflicting statement. Slavery is slavery, you're FORCED to do manual/Sexual work. you're allowed to be BEATEN, and humiliated. No God with half the wits of a moron would see this as morally right....of course, believers of the bible think its alright in this sense soo, I guess I take that Moron metaphor back, wouldn't want to insult Morons.

Getting away from my more insulting side of the rant, people even after the New Testament still used laws from the Old Testament (By the way: Did you know that there are more then 10 commandments? Try 613! I'd be very unhappy to memorize all those). Taking a look at history, slavery was a constant (Christians/Catholics and sub sects of both believing White was the superior color) and people backed this up with the Bible. Obviously God and Jesus had no issues here.

Taking my argument above, let me know what you think, wether you're an atheist or theist, I'd love to read your views!

First Post

Decided after making a forum post about a question I had on certain religious views that I should make a BLOG! I thoroughly enjoy both debating and talking about religion with both theists and atheists.

I am an Atheist, meaning I do not believe that there is a God based on the lack of evidence, and I'm very vocal on my beliefs, just because I feel that when a religion tries to assert itself as the right, I must always question wether it is demonstably true or not, and wether its ethically/morally right.
